Children and young people with developmental disabilities are given special instruction and encouragement from a therapeutic-educational perspective. This type of education is called special schooling. To the extent possible, special schooling follows the curricula developed for public schools. Special schooling is free of charge, as are the pedagogical-therapeutic measures offered in addition to special schooling.
Special schooling is available in two different forms:
- integrated in public school instruction with additional, therapeutic-educational support
- or in a special school.
The Office of Education maintains a directory of recognized special schools appropriate for different types of disability, such as sensory disability, behavioral problems, severe disability, and multiple disability. At the Special Pedagogical Day School run by the Therapeutic-Educational Center in Schaan, children and young people with language and/or cognitive disorders (mental disabilities) are taught and supported.
Additional information (in German) is available from the Office of Education at www.sa.llv.li.
