Vocational training in Liechtenstein has relied for decades on
the two-track and three-track system. The two-track system includes training and education in the apprenticeship
business and the vocational school; in the three-track system, this training and education is supplemented
by association courses, so-called introductory courses imparting fundamental practical skills. Of 350
to 400 students graduating from school each year, about 70 to 75 percent begin a vocational apprenticeship
generally lasting three or four years. Vocational training opportunities in roughly 80 careers are offered
in approximately 700 businesses, in the industrial, commercial, service, and administrative sectors.
Around 1000 apprenticeship contracts are currently registered. Each year, about 330 young professionals
conclude their training with a final apprenticeship examination. The Office of Vocational Training is
assigned all trades and crafts and professions in industry, the service sector, agriculture, forestry,
home economics, nursing and health care. The financial
expenditure for basic vocational training is roughly 8 million Swiss francs per year, and about 2 million
Swiss francs per year for advanced and continuing training. More
information on the vocational training system in Liechtenstein can be found on the website of the Office
