The International Academy of Philosophy (IAP) engages in a form
of systematic philosophy that satisfies the demands of a comprehensive science. IAP has set itself the
task of recognizing reality as it is, rather than simply collecting knowledge on the history of philosophy. Research
focuses include: - phenomenological realism
- ontology
and metaphysics
- philosophical anthropology and philosophy
of life
- epistemology, philosophy of truth, critique
of relativism
- ethical personalism/ethics
- political,
economic, and social philosophy: philosophical conception of Europe; philosophy of national identities;
analysis of the a priori principle in economics; financial ethics
- Plato
and Platonic roots of occidental philosophy (International Center for Plato Studies and the Platonic
Roots of Occidental Philosophy at IAP. Co-directors: Professor Giovanni Reale, Milano, and Professor
Evanghelos Moutsopoulos, Athens)
- peace research (Research
Center for Peace and Human
Dignity)
- interdisciplinary studies: relationship of philosophy
to business (financial
ethics), medicine, natural sciences (physics), psychology and religion
- The
autonomy
of philosophy and its simultaneous connections to the natural sciences, politics, and human sciences
form the basis for the interdisciplinary orientation of research at IAP.
These
research
focuses are presented in two series published by IAP with Universitätsverlag Winter, Heidelberg, in
the International Yearbook of Philosophy Aletheia, and in numerous other publications. In
addition to a good philosophical reference library, supplemented by a remote lending system, IAP also
houses the papers of three phenomenologists (Dietrich von Hildebrand/in copy, Balduin Schwarz/original,
Siegfried Johannes Hamburger/original). Further information
