Princess Marie was born on 14 April 1940 in Prague as Countess
Kinsky of Wchinitz and Tettau, being the fourth of the seven children of Count Ferdinand Carl Kinsky
of Wchinitz and Tettau and the Countess Henriette, born Countess of Ledebur-Wicheln. The family was
banished like many others in 1945 from the former Czechoslovakia and they fled to Germany. She
attended elemtary school in Ering am Inn from 1946 to 1950. Afterwards she went to the boarding school
of the Lioba Sisters in the Monastery Wald in Württemberg for eight years and graduated grammar school. In
1957 she spent an extended period of time in England in order to improve her English knowledge. She
attended the Academy for Applied Arts at the University of Munich for six semesters and graduated with
a diploma. After a short stay in Paris where she improved
her language knowledge, and until her engagement in 1965 she worked as commercial artist for a print
shop in Dachau. On 30 July 1967 Countess Kinsky of Wchinitz
and Tettau married Prince Hans-Adam II of Liechtenstein. The couple have four children: Hereditary Prince
Alois, born 11 June 1968; Prince Maximilian, born 16 May 1969; Prince Constantin, born 15 March 1972;
an Princess Tatjana, born 10 April 1973. The Princess'
interest primarily applies to the social institutions of the country. Princess
Marie is President of the Liechtenstein Red Cross and Honoury President of the Society for Orthopaedic
Aid. She presided the latter from 1983 until 2005. Furthermore
she is interested in art and culture and also engages in education matters. By
means of their participation in public events, both Prince and Princess show their solidarity with Liechtenstein
and their interest regarding political, economic, cultural or sport developments of the Principality. |
