Readings and literature days, the constantly growing number of
publications, and Liechtenstein's annual participation in the Frankfurt Book Fair testify to the rich
literary life in Liechtenstein. The Literaturhaus
in Triesen is a unique platform. The goal of the association is to promote and
present contemporary literature in Standard German and in dialect. The
National Library is at least as important for the literary
life in Liechtenstein. The Liechtenstein National Library combines three types of library: State library,
scientific library, and popular library. As State library, it is the center for the collection and documentation
of texts on Liechtenstein as a nation. As a scientific library, it houses specialized literature, and
obtains and communicates information from abroad. As a popular library, it provides all segments of
the population and all age groups with access to quality media for educational, entertainment, and meaningful
recreational purposes. In addition to these two institutions,
the Liechtenstein PEN Club was already founded back in 1978;
in accordance with the international orientation of the Principality of Liechtenstein, its aim is to
act as a catalyst for literary development beyond the boundaries of the country. |
