Sports

Sports enjoy great importance and broad support in Liechtenstein. The entire population can take advantage of the wide selection of sports clubs to engage in various types of sports, in addition to individual sporting activities. These opportunities are widely used. Popular sport means movement, a way to balance working life, calm, well-being and promotion of the health of the population. Despite its small size, Liechtenstein has also been able to develop a number of professional athletes, who, through their achievements, have carried and continue to carry the name of Liechtenstein out into the world, thereby helping to increase the visibility of the country.

Sports - whether popular, competitive, or professional - have social and health policy benefits for society that should not be underestimated. This is the reason and evidence why sports - the largest part of which takes place in private associations and clubs - should and must be supported by the State. The effect of sports as outlined above is in the public interest and justifies support by the State. In this knowledge, the State of Liechtenstein makes significant contributions to the promotion of sports.
