The "Youth + Sport" (Jugend + Sport, J+S, sports promotion
for young people between 10 and 20) program, very successful in Switzerland, has been offered in Liechtenstein
since 1 July 1979. Thanks to an initiative of what was then the Sports Advisory Council and due to the
conclusion of an agreement between Switzerland and Liechtenstein on 8 April 1981, this important connection
could be made. The mandate of J+S is to promote sports for young people. The State of Liechtenstein
assumes the costs for the training and the activities of the instructors in clubs and youth organizations.
Of the over 70 sports listed in the sports courses catalogue of the Swiss Federal Sports School in Magglingen,
24 sports are offered in Liechtenstein, allowing young people between 10 and 20 to choose activities
in the form of sports courses. Under the guidance of competent instructors who engage in systematic
continuing training, young people can participate in sports tailored to their needs and possibilities.
In order to maintain the level of quality of the instructors, J+S Liechtenstein annually offers an educational
and continuing training program, in collaboration with the cantonal sports authorities of Eastern Switzerland.
In addition, the entire course program of the Swiss Federal Sports School in Magglingen is made available
to participants from Liechtenstein. Each year, over 600 instructors teach over 4,000 young people in
about 14,000 training hours in associations, clubs, and youth groups, with uniform objectives and skilled
guidance. Who benefits from J+S? The
diverse offerings and the instruction by highly trained teachers primarily benefit young people. Through
reimbursement of instructors and organizers, any costs for participants can be kept to a minimum. Clubs
and youth groups benefit from the trained instructors, the reimbursements for activities, and additional
services such as the provision of teaching materials. Highly trained instructors are particularly important
when working with young people. Instructors therefore benefit not only from the financial remuneration,
but especially also from the various training opportunities (basic training, advanced training, and
continuing training). The uniform educational programs and the trained instructors are advantageous
for Liechtenstein. It can be assumed that Liechtenstein successes in international sports are also due
to J+S. The basis for success later in life is established during childhood and youth, and many elite
athletes received their first sports education as part of J+S. |
