Competitive sports include the intensive training and competition
activity in the framework of national and/or international championships, on the basis of amateur sports.
The State partially subsidizes training activities, the organization of large international events,
and participation in such events abroad, especially the Olympic Games. Through the international aspect
of competitive sports and due to the fact that the international participation of amateur athletes is
possible and makes sense in the area of competitive sports, the name of Liechtenstein is carried across
country borders. In addition, competitive sports can be held up as an example, since competitive athletes
push to the limits of their capabilities, even though they are also immersed in their normal working
life or at least do not have access to the necessary foundations (especially in terms of funding) to
engage in sports on a professional basis. Elite Sports
Committee The Elite Sports Committee is composed of seven voting
members. The Sports Commission and the Board of the LOSV delegate two of their own members. The Sports
Commission also appoints an athlete and a trainer representative, as well as a representative from the
private sector. The Elite Sports Committee has the following responsibilities: - elaboration
of regulations concerning the granting of contributions for elite and competitive sports, on behalf
of the Sports Commission
- recommendations to the Sports Commission
concerning the granting, cancellation, decrease, reimbursement, substitution, and amount of contributions.
