The State has repeatedly been able to provide important assistance
in creating and improving existing sports infrastructure. The best example is the construction of the
Rhine Park Stadium in Vaduz, which was subsidized by the State. This beautiful small stadium, offering
seating for about 3500 spectators, was inaugurated after about one year of construction on 15 July 1998. The
modern facility with a regional character is now primarily used for soccer. The Liechtenstein Football
Association plays its home games in the Rhine Park and in the future will also conduct the Cup final
here, and FC Vaduz also plays its championship games here as the home team. In order to fulfill international
standards, the stadium was built in compliance with the internationally applicable norms of the world
soccer federation FIFA and the European soccer union UEFA. The facility is, however, also available
for other sports and events (concerts, etc.). On 24 May 1999, the opening ceremony of the 8th Small
States of Europe Games, the Lie-Games 1999, took place. Other
important examples of State support of the construction of sports facilities are the track and field
facility in Schaan and the Center Court of the tennis facility in Vaduz. In addition to this support
in the form of State subsidies, the State also provides its own buildings and facilities for the use
of Liechtenstein sports. All State efforts in the field of infrastructure are borne by the idea that
the needs of all interest and age groups must be taken into account to the extent possible, and they
should also fulfill the requirements of economic efficiency. Sports and recreational facilities should
become meeting places for healthy recreational activities. |
