In view of the increased sporting activities in the 1920's and
30's, authorities also recognized the important function and influence of the sports clubs, even though
the individuals engaging in sports themselves may have been a bit passive politically. In most countries,
it was usual for specialized associations to create an umbrella association. In small-scale Liechtenstein,
the development was different: an umbrella association was to encourage the founding of specialized
associations. The question therefore arose whether a comprehensive sporting association could ensure
the safeguarding of sporting interests. On 10 December
1936, Prime Minister Josef hoop convened the members of the earlier NOK
(National Olympic Committee), requesting them and other persons to participate in an Executive Sports
Committee (OSPK). The name "National Sports Association for the Principality of
Liechtenstein" was chosen in a meeting on 16 December 1936. The first regular meeting
of the OSPK took place on 22 January 1937. The participating Prime Minister Hoop declared that sports
should be promoted by everyone, in order to ensure the "mental and physical discipline" of
young athletes. The Government would commit itself to "every possible protection and support"
for the organization. On 30 January 1937, the first meeting of the "National Sports
Association for the Principality of Liechtenstein" took place, together with the advisory committees
of the individual sporting groups. |
