The Golden Laurels are conferred in recognition of exceptional
achievements to successful athletes and to persons who have rendered outstanding services to Liechtenstein
sports. It is the highest recognition that the Government bestows in the field of sports. The honor
was created on the initiative of the Sports Commission. The sculpture consists of an acrylic glass plate
in which an 18-carat gilded natural bay leaf is cast. Two oxidized silver balls are soldered onto the
stem of the leaf. On the back of the glass plate, the Liechtenstein coat of arms is engraved by laser.
The labeling is silver and gold silk-screen print. Each sculpture is unique.

First
award of the Golden Laurels by the Government for outstanding services to Liechtenstein sports On
26 March 2003, the Government bestowed the Golden Laurels for outstanding services to Liechtenstein
sports for the first time. The recipients were Baron Eduard von Falz-Fein
and Xaver
Frick. Minister Alois Ospelt conferred the honor at an official ceremony
attended by the Sports Commission and other invited guests. The two recipients were acknowledged for
their outstanding efforts and engagement on behalf of Liechtenstein sports over many decades.
