As a matter of principle, the State regards sports activities as
highly significant in terms of social and health policy. Sports are an excellent pillar for the development
opportunities of the individual and of groups, and as a way to preserve and promote public health. Particularly
in these times of prosperity and increasing lack of physical movement, combined with unhealthy nutritional
habits, this aspect is becoming ever more important. The
Government is the highest executive organ responsible for guiding the affairs of the National Administration
in accordance with the Constitution and the laws (article 78 paragraph 1 of the Constitution). Pursuant
to this position and on the basis of its constitutional mandates in the areas of public welfare and
health, the Government also determines policy in the area of sports and sports promotion. One of the
most important responsibilities of the Government with respect to sports promotion is to request the
necessary budgetary means for sports promotion from Parliament. The Government is supported by the Sport
Commission and by the Sports Office. The Ministry of Sports is responsible within the Government. |
Due to its social and health
aspects, sport enjoys broad State support in Liechtenstein
