Pursuant to the Sports Act, the Government established the Sports
Commission for the promotion and coordination of sports. This Commission has the following responsibilities: - advising
the Government on matters of sport
- deciding the annual budget
request and report on behalf of the Government
- deciding the
granting of support contributions
- implementing "Youth
and Sport"
The Sports Commission consists
of seven voting members appointed by the Government for four years. The president is appointed by the
Government. The Liechtenstein Olympic Sports Federation (LOSV) is allocated three seats. The Director
of the Sports Office and the school sports inspector take part in the meetings in an advisory capacity.
In accordance with the terms of its mandate, the Sports Commission deals with all issues concerning
sports, especially sports promotion. In addition, the Sports Commission plays an important (sports)
political role, since its composition makes it possible for this Government advisory body to hear the
voices of the central sports institutions in the area of private sports (Liechtenstein Olympic Sports
Federation, LOSV), Youth and Sports (J+S), and school sports (physical education inspector). This guarantees
in principle that the individual interests are taken into account. In this light, the Sports Commission
also represents an important connection between the responsible Minister and the Government and the
private sports institutions. |
