General
information on Planken The Walser community of Planken lies in
a sunny, beautiful location, high above the Rhine Valley (786 meters elevation). The name of the town
is derived from the very widespread Roman term "Planca" or "Plaunca" for rising
pastures and meadows. The territory of the municipality is located on a mountain terrace and is surrounded
by a forest. The forest mainly fulfills a protective function today. The timber industry,
which used to be an important economic activity for the inhabitants, is no longer of any importance.
Most employed persons living in Planken work in one of the businesses in the valley. Planken is a point
of departure for numerous beautiful walks and hikes. Back
