Ministry of Cultural Affairs

Culture forms the identity of a country and its people. Culture is both historically developed tradition as well as the expression of life of the people of the present.

The uniqueness of Liechtenstein’s public cultural policy is that it may be considered – due to its small size – to be international, national, and regional, but also local, all at the same time. Liechtenstein has never been a self-contained cultural area. For centuries, there has been a lively cultural exchange with the whole region, including the Lake Constance area. Thanks to membership in various international organizations, cultural cooperation has developed far beyond the country’s borders. As Europe grows closer together, this aspect of cultural encounter and getting to know each other is of central importance. The interaction of mutually accepting cultures becomes a pillar of tolerant coexistence.

As a “cultural nation”, the Principality of Liechtenstein cultivates and promotes the various areas and interests of cultural creation. An important goal is to motivate as many people as possible to partake and participate. Commitment to culture is a particularly important political responsibility of the entire country, but also of society, clubs and associations, and the family.

It therefore goes without saying that the State is committed to fulfilling its cultural policy responsibilities.
