Significance

Although Liechtenstein is mostly known abroad as an excellent financial center, it would be completely inaccurate to reduce the Principality of Liechtenstein and its economy exclusively to the area of financial services. The most important economic sector of the country continues to be the industrial sector and manufacturing. The strongly diversified and export-oriented industry of Liechtenstein is the largest employer in the country. Almost half of employees are in the secondary sector (industry and manufacturing). In comparison, 60 to 70 percent of employees in Switzerland and Germany are in the service sector and only 25 to 30 percent in manufacturing.

In addition to their position as the most important employer in the country, industry and manufacturing contribute a substantial share, over 40%, of national added value.

The success of Liechtenstein industry is therefore an important guarantor of the high employment rate and prosperity of the country.
