On 3 May 2005, the 9th Liechtenstein Europe Symposium will take
place in Vaduz Town Hall, critically examining fundamental questions of European and global integration.
The theme of ongoing European integration will be complemented by the global perspective: Increasingly,
global organizations form the basis for a worldwide integration with economic, but indirectly also political
objectives. This year, the symposium will discuss various models of European integration and will also
portray the global dimension. The new Liechtenstein
Foreign Minister, Rita Kieber-Beck, will present the traditional status report of the Government on
the Liechtenstein position in Europe. Speakers include
Barbara Hendricks, State Secretary in the German Federal Ministry of Finance; Professor Dr. Peter Behrens,
University of Hamburg; Matthias Brinkmann, European Commission - Directorate General External
Relations; Dr. Fritz Schiesser, Member of the Swiss Council of States from the Canton of Glarus. The
future of the EEA, the WTO process, the challenges of the Doha Round, and the path taken by Switzerland
in its bilateral relations with the European Union are only a few of the topics of the symposium. Professor
Dr. Carl Baudenbacher, President of the EFTA Court in Luxembourg, and former Prime Minister Hans Brunhart
will chair the symposium. Registration for the 9th Liechtenstein
