FC Vaduz competes for promotion into Super League

Vaduz, 24 May – With a 5:2 victory against Baden, Football Club Vaduz has reached the qualification round for promotion into the Swiss Super League. For the first time in the history of Liechtenstein soccer, a Liechtenstein team has gained the opportunity to enter the highest Swiss league. In the qualification round, FC Vaduz will meet Xamax Neuchâtel on Whit Saturday and Monday.

With its 5:2 victory against Baden on Saturday, FC Vaduz secured the second place in the Swiss Challenge League. This gives Vaduz the opportunity to compete in two qualification games against Xamax Neuchâtel, the second-to-last ranked team in the Swiss Super League, for entry into the highest Swiss soccer league.

Historical victory
In the summer of 2001, FC Vaduz was promoted into what was then National League B (NLB). FC Vaduz had its greatest success to date by becoming fall champion of the NLB in 2002. By reaching the qualification round on Saturday for entry into the Super League, FC Vaduz has again written soccer history in Liechtenstein.

Successful championship round
The cornerstone of this success was only established after the winter break, since Vaduz was only ranked 9 in the Challenge League at that time. Under the guidance of Coach Martin Andermatt in its successful second half of the season, Vaduz then went on to reach second place.
