The Permanent Mission of the Principality of Liechtenstein in Geneva is a consequence of Liechtenstein’s accession to the Convention establishing the European Free Trade Association (EFTA) on 1 September 1991. This accession led to the establishment of a Permanent Delegation to EFTA in Geneva. On 1 October 1992, the Liechtenstein ambassador was then accredited to the United Nations Office at Geneva (UNOG), elevating the status of Liechtenstein’s representation in Geneva to a Permanent Mission. Finally, Liechtenstein joined the World Trade Organization (WTO) on 1 September 1995; since then, the Liechtenstein ambassador has also represented Liechtenstein’s interests in this organization.
Over the years, the following ambassadors have been accredited in Geneva:
- Dr. Andrea Willi (1991-1993)
- Norbert Frick, Chargé d’affaires a.i. (1994-1995, residing in Berne)
- H.S.H. Prince Nikolaus of Liechtenstein (1995-1996, residing in Berne)
