Liechtenstein in a strong qualifying group for the 2006 FIFA World Cup

Vaduz, 6 December – In the preliminaries for the 2006 FIFA World Cup in Germany, the Liechtenstein football team will play against Estonia, Latvia, Luxembourg, Portugal, Russia, and Slovakia. These are the results of the preliminary draw, held on 5 December in Frankfurt.

“Liechtenstein is playing in a difficult group against athletically very strong opponents,” Reinhard Walser, President of the Liechtenstein Football Association, explained. Three teams in this group will also be playing in the 2004 European Cup in Portugal. According to Walser, Liechtenstein has what it takes to make points against opponents like Luxembourg and Estonia, however: “Our objective is therefore to make five to six points in these preliminaries.”
The President of the Liechtenstein Football Association is confident that the qualifying round for the 2006 FIFA World Cup in Germany will be successful: “We’ll be well-prepared and don’t want to end up last in our group.”

The President of the Football Association considers it an advantage of this group that none of the opposing teams will necessitate extreme security measures for the games in Liechtenstein.

The World Cup preliminaries for Liechtenstein will begin on 17/18 August 2004. The precise schedule for group 3 will be determined by the representatives of the associations on 18 January 2004 in Moscow.
