The Oberschule provides general education and encompasses grades six to nine. It prepares students for their vocation. Particular emphasis is placed on the development of the personality and the general life orientation of the young person. Students enter the Oberschule upon completion of the fifth year of primary school.
Great importance is attached to experience- and action-oriented learning. Special attention is paid to promoting a positive attitude toward work, reliability, acquisition of independence, and strengthening of self-confidence. Within the framework of special scholastic measures, students with weaker performance receive targeted promotion in the form of supplementary instruction or instruction in small groups.
Where performance is sufficient, students have the option of transferring to the Realschule after the first and second year.
The performance of students is generally assessed by means of numeric grades. The Oberschule is completed with a graduation report card. After the fourth year of the Oberschule, a wide range of possibilities is available for further education in parallel with vocational training.
