Coffee roasting house Demmel has started producing organic coffee in Schaan. Its Bio Kaffee Santiago brand has been awarded labels including Liechtenstein goes fair.
The Bio Kaffee Santiago is certified according to the Swiss Organic Farming Ordinance, announced Demmel AG. It contains a 100 per cent Arabica blend, which uses only beans from certified organic production. It also carries the Liechtenstein goes fair label.
Known as LieGoesFair, the campaign was spearheaded by Liechtensteins Tellerrand Verein für solidarisches Handel aus Liechtenstein association, which centres on fair trade and development work in its activities.
Taste-wise, the Bio Kaffee Santiago is rich with a tart edge and little bitterness, according to Demmel. Its name derives from Santiago de Compostela, where the Jakobsweg reaches its end, and is intended to denote reflection and relaxation.
Peter Demmel won the Businessplan-Wettbewerb des KMU-Zentrums Liechtenstein competition in 2009 with his idea for a coffee roasting house. He has been selling his coffee, which is hand roasted in the Principality of Liechtenstein, since then.
