Liechtenstein’s export of goods reached CHF 3.3 billion in 2016, according to the Office of Statistics. This represents a 4 per cent increase over the previous year. The largest share of exports went to Europe (CHF 2.2 billion), rising overall by 4.3 per cent. Exports to Switzerland are not included here because that data is collected by the Federal Customs Administration. Exports to America rose by 1.6 per cent to reach close to CHF 664 million. Exports to Asia rose by a substantial 7.2 per cent, reaching nearly CHF 592 million. A few exports went to Africa and the Oceania region.
Machines, medical products and watches made up the largest share of the exports with close to CHF 1.3 billion. Metal products came in second, followed by chemical products, rubber and nuclear fuel.
Direct imports of products amounted to around CHF 1.9 billion in 2016, 3.4 per cent higher than the previous year. Most of the products were imported from Europe followed by Asia. Machinery, medical products and watches accounted for the largest share of imports at just over CHF 709,000.
