At present, the government representatives are working on a partnership-oriented strategy for the International Bodensee Conference (IBK), which is meant to replace IBK’s 2008 mission statement for the Lake Constance region in the medium term. The goal is to transform the region into a model region for future economic activity. In addition, the region should continue to gain in appeal as a place for working and living.
At last week’s meeting of government representatives in Schaan, an interim mission statement was adopted and which will form the basis for the process to come. “We talked about the objectives and defined common principles. I would say that the meeting was a milestone in the current strategy process,” Adrian Hasler, Prime Minister of the Principality in Liechtenstein, said in a statement.
2017 is Liechtenstein’s presidency in the IBK, which it is holding under the slogan “Neighbourhood makes it possible: ten neighbours – one space”. The idea behind it is that a community’s social capital is increased when the trusting relationships within the community are nurtured. “The discussion has shown that the countries and cantons of the IBK are willing to invest in the social capital in the Lake Constance region and live an active, trusting neighbourhood,” said Hasler.
The IBK is a collaborative association of the countries and cantons bordering on and connected with Lake Constance: Baden-Württemberg, Schaffhausen, Zurich, Thurgau, St. Gallen, Appenzell Ausserrhoden, Appenzell Innerrhoden, the principality of Liechtenstein, Vorarlberg and Bavaria.
