On Friday, government minister Mauro Pedrazzini and Swiss federal councillor Alain Berset signed a memorandum of understanding for furthering their cooperation in the field of outpatient health care. According to a statement that was issued by the two countries, the memorandum aims to develop a bilateral agreement between Liechtenstein and Switzerland as soon as possible.
Thanks to the agreement, people living in Liechtenstein and the Swiss border regions will be able to access outpatient medical treatments in the other country, provided they have the necessary health insurance.
The cooperation raises the question of how cross-border cost reimbursement should be managed by health insurers in the outpatient sector. Talks on the issue are ongoing between Liechtenstein and Switzerland, according to the statement.
