Liechtenstein has secured sixth place in the Global Sustainable Competitiveness Index 2015 published by Zurich-based think tank SolAbility. For innovation, however, the country ranked third.
Unlike many other rankings of national economies, the Global Sustainable Competitiveness Index published by SolAbility does not only take into account gross domestic product and other economic and financial indicators. It also evaluates factors that influence sustainable growth. Among these factors are natural capital availability, resource efficiency, social cohesion and innovation capabilities.
Liechtenstein secured sixth place in the ranking, which compares 179 countries. In the Intellectual Capital field which looks at capacity for innovation Liechtenstein ranked third. For Natural Capital, Liechenstein ranked 49th, for Resource Efficiency, 50th, for Social Capital, 21st, and for Governance Capital, 27th. For the second time, Iceland topped the overall ranking list. For the fourth time in a row, Scandinavian countries took the other spots.
