Jürgen Brücker is the University of Liechtensteins new rector. A former member of the rectorate and executive board at the University of St.Gallen, he will take up the position on 1st October 2016.
Brücker was appointed by the University Council following an intensive selection process, reports a press release. Before he takes up the position of rector on 1st October, he will undergo a period of induction with previous rector Klaus Näscher, who will reach retirement age in 2017. A total of around 70 people put themselves forward for the selection process, which was overseen by external experts. Volker Rheinberger, president of the University Council, was quoted in the press release as saying: In the end, we were won over not only by the prerequisite professional qualifications, but also the results of the assessments and personal impressions.
Jürgen Brücker is currently head of External Relations and Development at the University of St.Gallen (HSG). Responsible for regional and international networks, as well as innovation at the university, he is currently heading up the overhaul to the Business Administration bachelors programme. Since 2004, Jürgen Brücker has been academic director of the CEMS Master's in International Management programme at HSG. CEMS is an alliance of 29 leading global management schools. According to the press release, Brücker followed a technical education with a doctorate in economics at HSG. He has dual Swiss and German citizenship, and is married with three children.
