The Solargenossenschaft Liechtenstein, the Liechtenstein Power Authority and the Bürgergenossenschaft Balzers citizens association are surveying a new wind farm site. The latest measurements have proved positive.
Actual measurements have concluded that the site is suitable for a wind farm, reported vilan24.ch. The analyses refer to the location And/Ans southwest of Balzers and just south of the Liechtenstein border, according to the project website. This puts the site in the Fläsch municipality in the Swiss canton of Graubünden.
The planning group Projekt Windpark And/Ans is made up of the solar organisation Solargenossenschaft Liechtenstein, the Liechtenstein Power Authority (Liechtensteinische Kraftwerken LKW) and the Bürgergenossenschaft Balzers citizens association, which owns the site. The goal is to create a farm with two or three wind turbines.
According to the group, the project was conceived in summer 2010 by the Solargenossenschaft Liechtenstein with support from the Bürgergenossenschaft Balzers. At that time, wind measurements proved positive. Further measurements and computer simulations by the Interstaatliche Hochschule für Technik Buchs (NTB) confirmed these results. According to the website, more tests are ongoing in particular with regard to bats.
Meanwhile, opposition has formed in Balzers in the shape of the Gegenwind group, reported daily newspaper Liechtensteiner Volksblatt. The group is currently collecting arguments against the project, according to the article.
