Bonyf presents olive oil-based adhesive agent
11 April 2022
The dental hygiene firm Bonyf has issued a warning against the potential dangers of conventional adhesive agents for dentures that are developed on the basis of petrochemicals. The company has now developed an alternative adhesive cream in the form of OlivaFix Gold based on olive oil.
The dental technology company Bonyf has warned against the use of conventional adhesive creams for dentures and is now offering a healthy alternative with OlivaFix. According to a press release, the European Chemicals Agency (ECHA) classified a common component of other adhesives, namely petrolatum, as “carcinogenic” in December 2021. Denture adhesive creams contain a number of chemicals that ensure effective adhesion in the oral cavity, including petrolatum and zinc. Petrolatum, also known as Vaseline or petroleum jelly, was considered safe and widely accepted until the ECHA’s publication. The ECHA is responsible for implementing EU chemicals legislation to protect the health of citizens and the environment in Europe.
For its OlivaFix Gold adhesive cream, Bonyf has substituted all petrochemical ingredients with organic olive oil. The anti-inflammatory properties of olive oil are well known, the press release explains. It also reduces the growth of bacteria and fungi such as Candida albicans, which is responsible for stomatitis (inflammation of the mouth and lips), a disorder that affects 60 percent of all people who wear dentures. OlivaFix also contains no zinc.
OlivaFix is patent-protected and is already available to buy in France from a leading national chain. The relevant partners are now being sought in German-speaking countries, Jean-Pierre Bogaert, CEO and founder of Bonyf, explains in the press release.
Bonyf products are sold in 36 countries. Research and development processes are carried out in Liechtenstein, while production activities are located in Switzerland (in Buchs in the canton of St.Gallen). The holding company bonyf NV is domiciled in Belgium. It is the holder of all patents.
