The Principality of Liechtenstein

The Principality of Liechtenstein is located in the heart of Europe’s alpine region, between Switzerland and Austria. It is home to around 38,500 inhabitants. Covering an area of 160km², it is the fourth-smallest state in Europe and the sixth-smallest in the world. Yet, despite its compact size, the Principality of Liechtenstein offers everything you could wish for: mighty mountain landscapes, a vibrant cultural scene, charming villages and plenty of opportunities for entrepreneurs.

Respectful cooperation
The Principality of Liechtenstein is a constitutional hereditary monarchy based upon democratic-parliamentary principles. Dualism, the division of state power into two parts, is enshrined in the constitution. The two sovereign estates, the Prince and the people, are bound by these precepts. This balanced coexistence is a guarantee for political stability in Liechtenstein. The Princely House provides the head of state and has guaranteed continuity for more than 300 years. Day-to-day policies are determined largely by the elected Parliament (legislature) and the Government (executive). The close bond between the Reigning Prince and the people is also evident in everyday life in Liechtenstein, which is characterised by respectful and easy-going cooperation.

Education as foundation
One of the fundamental concepts pursued by the Liechtenstein education system is: Education helps all people in Liechtenstein to develop their individual potential. This takes place at all levels of education. In addition to the general education route (grammar school and vocational baccalaureate school), with a primary focus on higher education, Liechtenstein also has another first-class form of education: the dual education system. In this case, theory and practice, learning at school and in the workplace, merge into a unique symbiosis, creating a high-quality foundation for the Liechtenstein workplace. Outstanding results at the world vocational championships WorldSkills underscore the effectiveness of the dual education system.
