Hilcona awarded prize for sustainable packaging

Hilcona has claimed a prize at the Swiss Packaging Award 2022. The food producer emerged victorious in the category of Sustainability and Circular Economy. The award-winning product is a recyclable pouch made from just a single material.
Hilcona has been awarded a prize in the category of Sustainability and Circular Economy at the Swiss Packaging Award 2022, which is organized by the Swiss Packaging Institute, the umbrella organization of the Swiss packaging industry. The jury was impressed by Hilcona’s transparent and pasteurization-compatible stand-up pouch developed on the basis of polypropylene (PP). Because it consists of only one material, the packaging can be recycled. It was developed in conjunction with the international packaging expert Mondi for the own-brand range of the Swiss supermarket chain Coop.
“We are very proud of this award”, comments Julia Bredemeier, the Hilcona Group’s packaging expert, in a press release, adding that: “The excellent mono-material packaging solution is an attractive alternative to multi-layer, non-recyclable packaging”.
According to Hilcona, its RetortPouch Recyclable, as the packaging solution is known, offers an extended shelf life due to the high barrier properties of the packaging, which in turn also helps to cut back on potential food waste.
