Karin Schick named as new director of the Hilti Art Foundation

5 March 2024

Vaduz - Karin Schick has been named as the new director of the Hilti Art Foundation with effect from the start of April. The renowned art historian succeeds Uwe Wieczorek in this role. The long-standing director of the foundation has announced his intention to retire.

The Hilti Art Foundation will soon have a new director: From the start of April, Karin Schick will take over from Uwe Wieczorek, further details of which can be found in a press release issued by the foundation. The art historian most recently headed up the classical modernism department at the Hamburger Kunsthalle, an art museum in the city of Hamburg. Schick previously worked as director at the Kirchner Museum Davos, in addition to serving as deputy director at the Kunstmuseum Stuttgart.

Karin Schick studied art history, philosophy and German in Tübingen and Boston. “As an experienced curator and expert on classical modernism, Karin Schick will bring extensive experience and a great deal of passion to her new role”, as the Hilti Art Foundation writes in the press release. The new director will seek to use her international network to strategically develop the Hilti Art Foundation, the press release states.

At present, the foundation is headed up by Uwe Wieczorek. During his period in charge, he has made a “significant contribution to the successful development and expansion of the collection”, according to the foundation. After 20 years working for the Hilti Art Foundation, Wieczorek now has his sights set on retirement. However, he will still have some involvement in the organization by continuing to serve as a member of the foundation advisory board.
