Liechtensteinische Post continues consolidation course
19 April 2022
Liechtensteinische Post has presented a positive operating result for the fifth consecutive year. Growth in the area of parcel traffic has offset declines in the mail business. Payment transactions and philately also continued to lose ground. However, the customer base for logistics was successfully expanded.
In 2021, Liechtensteinische Post AG marginally increased sales year on year from 42.25 million to 42.75 million Swiss francs. As such, operating earnings (EBIT) rose from 2.47 million to 2.59 million Swiss francs. As detailed in a press release, Liechtensteinische Post can be regarded as a financially sound enterprise after having recorded its fifth positive annual operating result in a row.
Core business was stable despite the fact that a significant shift was observed: The mail business, which continues to represent the largest revenue item, fell by 2.9 percent. At the same time, parcel traffic increased by 15.6 percent.
In the area of payment transactions, deposits again fell sharply by 10.5 percent. This now means that more than 25 percent of the volume of deposits has been lost within the space of the past three years. In the area of postage stamps (philately), sales fell by 10.4 percent, while tourism revenues have yet to return and, moreover, the number of stamp collectors is declining.
However, the area of logistics performed positively. Here, Liechtensteinische Post was able to expand its customer base. The course of action taken by the company will be “consistently pursued in order to directly support the further growth of the parcel business”.
On balance, Liechtensteinische Post talks of a “cautiously positive overall picture”. The postal market is in the midst of a transformation process. Despite this, the company is in “a significantly better position than was the case a few years ago”, the press release concludes.
