Liechtenstein remains on growth course

Exports, population and overnight stays in Liechtenstein rose year on year in 2018. This is shown in the new edition of the online publication “Aktuelle Entwicklung”. In it the Office of Statistics conducts its quarterly review of the economy and the population.
According to the first edition 2019 of the online publication “Aktuelle Entwicklung” [current trends] published by the Office of Statistics of the Principality of Liechtenstein (AS), in 2019 Liechtenstein’s direct exports of goods rose year on year by 8.5% to goods with a value of 3.658 billion Swiss francs. In the case of imports an increase of 0.6% to goods worth 2.015 billion francs was registered. At the same time, overnight stays went up by 7.0% to 161,105. On the other hand, in the same period projected building costs fell by 19.2% to 455.5 million francs. Registration figures for motor vehicles were also down 6.5% on last year with 2461 new registrations.
Liechtenstein’s permanent resident population increased last year by 0.9% to 38,201 persons. 19,158 of them were employed, an increase of 1.5% compared to 2017. In 2018, the 12,961 foreigners accounted for around a third of the total permanent resident population. Compared with 2017 the number of foreigners rose by 1.3%. As in previous years, Swiss citizens (3646 persons) made up the largest group of foreign nationals in Liechtenstein in 2018.
